SCHOOL VISIT OPTION 1
Cynthia will read IF A BUMBLEBEE LANDS ON YOUR TOE aloud. In the story, readers are given a ticket to a performance featuring a menagerie of creatures great and small. After the initial reading, Cynthia will introduce ‘reader’s theatre’ and children will choose roles to play and will act out the story using costumes from Cynthia’s ‘bumblebee bag’. Suitable for pre-K through grade two.

School Visit Option 2
Cynthia will read IF A BUMBLEBEE LANDS ON YOUR TOE and discuss poetry and lyrical writing. Students will be given examples lyrical writing in picture books. Cynthia will show how she revises her own writing to make it more lyrical. Students will practice lyrical writing, with a choice of topics to explore. Suitable for grades 3-5

School Visit Option 3
Cynthia will read her picture book, IF A BUMBLEBEE LANDS ON YOUR TOE. Cynthia will discuss how picture books are a collaboration between the author and the illustrator. She’ll share how that collaboration works and students will have the opportunity to become Cynthia’s illustrator for a new book she is working on. Suitable for kindergarten through grade four.

School Visit Option 4
Cynthia will read her picture books, IF A BUMBLEBEE LANDS ON YOUR TOE and BUTTERFLY SEA. Cynthia will discuss how she came to write books about pollinators. Who are the pollinators? Cynthia will talk about role of pollinators, things that are impacting their survival, why it matters, and how we can help them.

School Visit Option 5
Cynthia will read IF A BUMBLEBEE LANDS ON YOUR TOE and discuss how anxiety works. We will talk about the ‘fight/flight/freeze’ response, that it part of being human, and how it can protect us from danger. We’ll learn how sometimes anxiety does not serve us so well (at times when the danger is not life-threatening), especially when it prevents us from doing activities we want to do. Did you ever want to talk to someone, but feel afraid to speak up? Students will practice breathing techniques, mindfulness activities and learn how playing and engaging with others helps them become mentally stronger and contributes to their own healthy sense of well-being. Suitable for grades 3-5
